This event is graciously sponsored by the Rea Coffeehouse. Directions to the venue: We will post signs at Chatham. Bus: 71D or 500: Take bus away from downtown (the Cathedral side of Fifth), get off at the "College Street" stop— you can easily miss this stop, so look out for Negley and Maryland stops which directly preceed the College stop. Get off bus, walk a few feet, turn right on Woodland Road into Chatham University. Walk over the small bridge, continue up the hill, until you see "Rea House" on your left. Walk up driveway around back to the basement; this is Rea Coffeehouse. By car from oakland: Take Fifth Avenue towards Shadyside, turn right on Woodland Road (there's a Chatham sign), over the huge speedbumps, over little bridge, continue on to the right, past the huge mansions, then turn left into the driveway after "Laughlin Hall." Drive to parking lot in back which connects Laughlin Hall and Rea Hall, park, go down to basement; this is Rea Coffeehouse. Thanks to everyone who made this year another big success! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2006 dance... On February 23 100+ people gathered for "Somewhere over the Barricades," an activist informal formal. This all age's dance was the first annual formal dance for radicals in Pittsburgh and was open to all friends of Pittsburgh Organizing Group (POG). It was part of an expanded push by POG to hold more radically themed social and community building events. Many saw it as a complimentary event to the fourth annual anarchist picnic coming up in July. The variety and quality of outfits was superb, with everything from tuxedos to guys in dresses to those rocking their regular street clothes. People went out of their way to be formal, exotic, inventive, traditional, and just plain HOT. Thank you to DJ Rose What! for the awesome tunes, to the people who made the circle A cookies, to those who brought refreshments (that was a hell of a lot of punch) and helped decorate the space. And certainly big props to everyone who showed up, it was a blast and we're looking forward to next year. A special thanks to St. Bede's for letting us have the dance there. We raised $1100 in donations for those who will be arrested at the upcoming protests on March 2. See you somewhere over the barricades, or next year, whichever comes first.
