3:55 pmpog@mutualaid.org c/o Thomas Merton Center 5125 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15224 POG's Statement of Solidarity with Save Our TransitDear Save Our Transit, We are writing to express our support for your ongoing campaign to save public transit in Western Pennsylvania. Save Our Transit's years long efforts to resist the constant attacks on public transportation and secure a long term, dedicated source of funding have been absolutely inspiring. We sincerely thank you for all of your hard work. It is clear to us that Save Our Transit has taken a strong lead in this effort for years and we continue to support SOT, as a grassroots organization made up of bus riders, in heading up the resistance to the most recent attack on public transit. We are confident that the organizers and activists involved in SOT are absolutely capable of mounting an energetic, powerful, and strategic opposition to current proposed service cuts and fare hikes. We are also confident that because of your hard work the proposed cuts and hikes will be stopped! The Pittsburgh Organizing Group is ready and available to increase our support of your campaign. Simple actions steps we could take could include issuing a call through our activist networks to boost turnout at specific upcoming SOT action, writing a formal statement of support (that could be prominently displayed on our web page), and/or mobilizing POG members and supporters to make a big splash at an upcoming SOT action. Also, POG's Tactical Training Initiative is ready and willing to provide action trainings as needed, and POG members are ready to show up in support, should you choose to mount a civil disobedience or non-violent direct action effort. As you know, POG has a strong commitment to 'solidarity in the streets.' Our organization has a formal commitment to respect other groups' rights to do certain types of protests at certain times and places. As we participate in SOT actions we will do so within the tone and tactics set by SOT organizers. We would welcome a verbal dialogue about ways in which POG could most effectively and respectfully support SOT's actions. If you need any help at all, please don't hesitate to talk to a POG member or e-mail us at POG@mutualaid.org. |
